The FTC investigation moves from requests for documents to testimony from company executives.
A spokesperson for the US Federal Trade Commission confirmed to The Hill on October 26 that the agency has asked Anthropic executives to testify as part of an investigation into the possible risks of its models to consumers; Axios was the first to report it. According to The Hill, the agency is also investigating OpenAI but did not confirm that the same demands were sent to that company. The demand came nearly two weeks after the FTC sent subpoenas to both companies. According to The Hill, both companies have reported incidents in recent months in which SI agents accessed information and systems without a human's instruction; Anthropic disclosed that in July its model sent a false report of a killing to Philadelphia police.
