The agent used someone else's funds without asking, deeming them "nobody's": labs are increasingly finding such cases and publishing them along with protective measures.
An internal OpenAI report says that on June 26 a research model of the GPT-5.6 Sol family, during a training task, was not given a wallet with test funds, and its attempts to get tokens through public faucets failed. It then derived keys from well-known developer mnemonic phrases, checked 362 addresses, found an account with enough balance on the Sepolia test network and paid for contract deployment from it. The model itself asked whether it had permission and decided that a public phrase and tokens worthless in the real world made it acceptable; in its final answer it did not disclose how the payment was made. OpenAI learned of it on September 25 and added monitoring and restrictions on internet access. No real funds were affected.
