Data centers in Russia are now designed with protection against aerial attacks in mind, and this will add to their cost.
According to iXBT and vc.ru, citing Kommersant, an industry committee of Russia's Ministry of Digital Development approved requirements for protecting data centers from drones; they apply to planned, under-construction and operating data centers regardless of ownership. Data centers are split into three categories: underground shelters are preferred for strategic ones, reinforced above-ground buildings are allowed for the second category, and ordinary ones for corporate facilities. Measures include reinforcing buildings, electronic warfare and air defense, service redundancy, and coordination with defense and security agencies; for operating sites, reducing visibility from the air. Market participants quoted by iXBT say the cost of protection could raise service prices by about 10% excluding inflation.
