The equal division of shares and the pledge to give most of them away are elements of the structure with which Anthropic is going public.
According to Fortune's calculations based on the prospectus, the shares of Anthropic's seven cofounders — Dario and Daniela Amodei, Tom Brown, Jared Kaplan, Sam McCandlish, Jack Clark and Chris Olah — could be worth about $200 billion in total after the IPO; they are divided into seven nearly identical stakes, each holding the same number of options (2,185,400) and restricted stock units (639,500). Last year Dario and Daniela Amodei each had a salary of $654,167; after a raise in July, each gets $1.4 million. Anthropic confirmed to Fortune: "Each co-founder is paid equal compensation." All seven pledged to give 80% of their stakes to charity: Fortune estimates that at the valuation of the last private round their stakes are worth about $99.3 billion and the pledge about $79.4 billion. The pledges are voluntary and revocable; they are separate from Anthropic's Public Benefit Fund, which would hold shares worth about $50 billion. The founders will be able to sell part of their shares about six months after the IPO and the rest after about a year.
