Anthropic's compute capacity is being paid for through a debt structure worth tens of billions of dollars.
According to Reuters, Bank of America, Blackstone, Citi and Morgan Stanley are arranging $63 billion of financing to buy Broadcom's SI accelerators and networking equipment, which will be leased to Anthropic. A new special-purpose vehicle will buy the equipment. The first-lien debt — about $43.5 billion, 69% of the total — will be arranged by Bank of America, Citi and Morgan Stanley; Blackstone is the sole provider of the second lien. Broadcom is giving first-lien lenders "residual value support", in effect a significant guarantee. Deliveries will begin in 2027 under a previously announced compute capacity agreement; earlier, Apollo and Blackstone agreed to finance a $35 billion expansion of Anthropic's compute. Moody's, Reuters writes, warned that the risk would rise if several such deals were done within a short period.
