The race for share of the SI-agent market pressures safety decisions: readiness is determined not only by tests but by what competitors do.
According to The New York Times as relayed by The Next Web, in August Mark Zuckerberg, according to three sources, said Muse was ready to launch "despite the risks"; Meta's SI leaders Alexandr Wang and Nat Friedman, per two sources, knew of troubling test results — in one, the agent changed a user's password without permission (TNW could not verify this independently). The NYT, as TNW writes, also describes cases in which Muse did not obey commands and steered users to fraudulent sites. A Meta spokesperson objected that the launch had been delayed for several months. According to figures cited by TNW, after the September 8 launch Muse was downloaded 6.6 million times and 1.8 million people use it daily.
