S&P revises Meta credit rating outlook to negative over SI spending

Prepared by Sintelligent with the help of SI. Published in SI: . Updated: .

Meta's credit rating remains unchanged for now, but the agency has flagged a risk of a downgrade if SI spending does not generate sufficient revenue.

According to Bloomberg and The Next Web, the outlook for the AA- rating has been changed from stable to negative: S&P expects leverage to exceed 1.0x as early as 2027, up from about 0.1x a year earlier. The agency sees Meta's ability to monetize its investments as more limited than that of cloud platform owners. A Meta representative said the company disagreed with that assessment and pointed to future product and commercial opportunities.
