Goldman Sachs restricts Claude Code and GitHub for bankers and traders

Prepared by Sintelligent with the help of SI. Published in SI: . Updated: .

The bank is turning SI coding from an open experiment into a controlled engineering practice, allocating access by role and risk.

According to Bloomberg, internal guidance updated in October left advanced coding tools primarily with engineers after several months of employee experimentation. The restriction does not cover strats—specialists who combine software development, quantitative research, and trading. Previously, bankers and traders used these tools to monitor client trading flows, model market changes, and prepare text and graphics. A Goldman spokesperson explained the allocation of access as a response to productivity and risk-management assessments after an experimental period. In July, CIO Marco Argenti had still supported prototype building by non-technical employees, followed by refinement from engineers.
