OpenAI rushes to raise about $30 billion at a valuation above $1.4 trillion before Anthropic's IPO

The two biggest SI companies are competing for investors' money, and SI infrastructure remains very expensive.
According to Reuters, citing sources (as relayed by Interfax), OpenAI wants to close an investment round before Anthropic's IPO, expected in mid-November; the unusually tight timeline is partly due to a wish to get ahead of its rival in the race for investor money. The company is in talks with existing investors, including SoftBank Group and Abu Dhabi's MGX. Investors familiar with the company say the money is needed for infrastructure and as a cushion in case next year's planned IPO has to be postponed because of the market. The previous round, in March, was a record $122 billion at an $852 billion valuation. The material contains no confirmation from OpenAI itself.
