Advisory group on SI and mathematics: OpenAI's solutions fall short of its recommendations; researchers find discrepancies in the Navier–Stokes proof

The dispute is over how to accept proofs found by a machine: without formal verification and peer review, they are advised not to be treated as reliable.
According to TechCrunch, of the 719 manuscripts OpenAI released, 42% underwent formal verification and only 10 include the model's reasoning. The Advisory Group on Mathematics and Artificial Intelligence (AGMAI), per the same source, asked labs not to test advanced math problems on proprietary models. Terence Tao, as quoted by TechCrunch, said problems are being solved autonomously by people who simply prompt SI and have no interest in the field as a whole. Researchers at Cambridge and King's College, according to TechCrunch, found discrepancies between the natural-language proof and its Lean formalization for the Navier–Stokes problem and concluded that such solutions should not be taken on trust without peer review.
