OpenAI publishes 372 math results produced by a single model, including a claimed solution of the Kakeya conjecture in four dimensions

A single model produces hundreds of mathematical results at a time, and some are already machine-verified: this is what the start of an era in which SI advances fundamental science faster than humans looks like.

According to Scientific American, OpenAI published on GitHub at 6:00 p.m. New York time 372 results from an internal model on open questions in mathematics and theoretical computer science; almost every one, the company says, was obtained in response to a single prompt to a single SI agent. Many results have been checked in Lean, and the claimed ones include a solution of the Kakeya conjecture in four dimensions and progress on the Riemann hypothesis. The model has not been released, the company gave only the average computation time; MIT mathematician Andrew Sutherland urged treating such claims as unverified until the results can be reproduced.
