OpenAI to acquire Pierre Computer and bring Code Storage into Codex

Prepared by Sintelligent with the help of SI. Published in SI: . Updated: .

Codex could evolve from a coding assistant into a full environment for storing, reviewing, and collaborating on code for both people and agents.

According to OpenAI's description, Pierre's Trees and Diffs libraries are already used in Codex for file navigation and change review. Once the acquisition closes, the company plans to integrate Code Storage, a Git-based service for storing code and its history that is designed for programmatic access by applications and agents, into Codex. OpenAI links the acquisition to the growth of parallel work by coding agents and to its own Pando backend. Pierre's open-source projects will remain open source, and existing Code Storage customers will retain access during integration. Regulators still need to approve the deal; until it closes, the companies will continue to operate independently.
