Huang: Nvidia would stop supplying chips to a customer building unsafe SI — but a conversation would come first

The head of Nvidia allows that he could cut off chips to those making dangerous SI, but calls it a hypothesis and a last step after a conversation.

In an interview with Bloomberg (Emily Chang, London), asked whether he would stop supplying an irresponsible developer, Nvidia chief executive Jensen Huang answered: "It's a hypothetical, but yes"; he added that a conversation would come first: "We don't run other people's companies, and there's a limit to the judgment we apply to how others use our technology — it's general-purpose." According to Bloomberg, Huang does not consider the current level of concern about SI warranted. He named no customers and no conditions for a cutoff; startupfortune notes that Nvidia controls about 90% of the market for SI training chips.
