Amateur astronomer uses SI agents to find a possible super-Earth in NASA TESS data

Prepared by Sintelligent with the help of SI. Published in SI: . Updated: .

With SI, an amateur can find in open data what professionals missed, but the find still needs verification.

Pavel Rabtsevich, a Spain-based product manager, wrote his own SI algorithm and used it to check data from the TESS space telescope on more than 126,000 stars. The assistant drew attention to the star TIC 4206066 in the constellation Orion, about 116 light-years away: its brightness dips for about two hours every three days. According to Scientific American, this is a possible super-Earth whose traces had been sitting in open NASA data for years; the discovery remains a candidate and awaits confirmation.
