Amateur astronomer uses Claude Code to find an exoplanet candidate in TESS telescope data

An amateur with an SI assistant is running a real planet search, and science is opening up to people who previously lacked the tools.
According to Habr, the author found in TESS data a star 116 light-years away whose brightness drops by 0.05% for about two hours every 3.18 days; the estimated diameter is about 1.4 times Earth's. He used Claude Code with Opus 5.5 and Fable 5.1 to process the data and write the search code, and asked the model to disprove the hypothesis rather than confirm it; per the same source, the candidate has been accepted by the TESS team, with verification expected October 31 to November 6.
