The US Army wants to place all unmanned and autonomous programs under one command, but that requires a decision by Congress.
At a panel of the Association of the US Army with the service chiefs, Pentagon head Pete Hegseth said the Autonomous Warfare Command will unite scattered drone programs and bring autonomous capabilities to all branches; in his words, such authority is needed "yesterday". The target date for its creation is October 1, 2027, and it requires congressional authorization. Project Agincourt will bring together acquisition specialists, engineers and military operators to test systems alongside troops. The Army also plans to create a Futures and Autonomous Systems Command with a separate acquisition office for priority systems. The panel was interrupted by six protesters who spoke against the military action and the proposed $1.5 trillion budget.
