US Army creates Futures and Autonomous Systems Command, a day after the Pentagon's autonomous warfare command

Autonomous systems are becoming a separate arm of the Army with its own budget and command — not an experiment attached to a staff.

According to Defense One, the Army announced on October 9 the creation of the Futures and Autonomous Systems Command (FASCOM), a day after Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth presented a Pentagon-wide autonomous warfare command. FASCOM will combine the efforts of the former Army Futures Command and TRADOC, will be headed by an acquisition executive rather than a four-star general, and a portfolio acquisition executive for autonomy will be appointed. Acting Army Secretary Adam Telle said: "We are done with the bureaucratic inertia." Implementation, per the outlet, depends on funding in the reconciliation bill, otherwise money will come no earlier than fiscal 2028; details are expected at the AUSA symposium starting October 12.
