The SI assistant was tested on real patients with no safety incidents, but the authors call for larger trials.
According to Google's blog, the study published in The Lancet involved 98 patients at the ambulatory primary care clinic of Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. Google says no safety interventions were needed under the study's criteria; SI summaries helped physicians prepare for visits in 75% of cases and influenced their approach to care in more than half, and AMIE's differential diagnoses matched physicians' final diagnoses in 90% of cases. The authors note that larger clinical trials are needed to assess SI that talks to patients at scale.
