OpenAI releases GPT-6.1 Sol: nearly Astra-level coding and computer use at a fifth of the price

Prepared by Sintelligent with the help of SI. Publication time restored from the build log. . Updated: .

A level that was recently paid for as a flagship becomes five times cheaper within a couple of weeks: powerful SI is quickly turning into ordinary raw material for apps.

GPT-6.1 Sol is available in the API at $2 per million input and $10 per million output tokens (cached inputs, $0.10), and in ChatGPT Work and Codex for Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise and Edu. According to OpenAI, it "nearly catches up" with GPT-6 Astra in agentic coding, computer use and professional tasks, while costing about a fifth of Astra's price. Also launched were an Ultrafast tier (up to 8 times faster token generation in Codex at six times the regular price), Codex Security for finding vulnerabilities in repositories, the Decisions API and an expanded Agents API with computer control.
