Pentagon has almost entirely removed Claude from classified systems after Anthropic refused to lift its ban on surveillance and autonomous weapons

The military is choosing SI without restrictions from the developer: SI is becoming a standard part of the armed forces, and the rules of its use are now set by the customer, not the model's creator.

The US Department of Defense is moving all classified SI tasks from Anthropic's models to OpenAI, xAI, Google and Palantir Maven; about 90% has already been moved, with completion planned by the end of September. The reason is that Anthropic did not accept the condition of use "for any lawful purposes" and insisted on a ban on mass surveillance and fully autonomous lethal weapons; the Pentagon in response designated the company a "supply chain risk to national security."
