A shorter power-conversion chain and local storage allow accelerators to be packed more densely while smoothing their sharp demand spikes.
According to Envision Energy, the system has been operating at the Galaxy AI campus in Inner Mongolia since August. A solid-state transformer directly converts 10 kV AC to an 800 V DC bus, eliminating intermediate stages. Batteries smooth second-long demand spikes and provide several minutes of backup, while the Dubhe controller coordinates them with millisecond precision. The company expects less conversion equipment and cabling and more space for denser racks. The campus is planned to expand to 3 GW, and a similar architecture is intended for Mission Gobi projects totaling 5 GW by 2030.
