SUSE to lay off one in ten employees, citing automation and SI

The open-source software developer is restructuring its workforce around more automated work; some disappearing roles are being replaced by new processes rather than by individual SI systems.
According to The Register, CEO Dirk-Peter van Leeuwen told staff that about 10% of the nearly 2,000-person workforce would be cut. He linked the decision to changes in software companies driven by SI and automation and said modern tools are already accelerating processes, reducing operating costs, and diminishing the need for some existing roles. Other positions, he said, will evolve over the next few years. ZDNet notes that statements attributing layoffs to SI do not always mean that specific workers are being directly replaced by models.
