The first ground robots with weapons developed by a German–Ukrainian partnership are due to reach Ukraine's armed forces by the end of 2026.
According to Euronews, a German and a Ukrainian defense company completed the first major tests of the GEREON unmanned ground platform from ARX Robotics with the SABER weapons module from Ukraine's ROBONEERS. The platform conducts reconnaissance with cameras and sensors, and the module mounted on top provides remotely operated fire support in attack and defense, so that the operator works from a safe distance. The cooperation agreement was signed in early October during Chancellor Friedrich Merz's state visit to Kyiv, with Volodymyr Zelenskyy present. The first vehicles with the new weapons modules are to be ready and delivered, in line with the needs of Ukraine's armed forces, before the end of 2026.
