Reddit is answering falling search traffic by moving toward logged-in users and licensing its data for SI.
On its third-quarter earnings call, Reddit announced a move to a mostly logged-in experience. According to TechCrunch, the aim is to protect its data from SI scraping and to sign licensing deals with model providers. Global daily active users in the third quarter were 130.3 million, unchanged from the previous quarter; in the US they were 50.7 million, against 53.2 million in the second quarter and 2% fewer than a year earlier. Chief executive Steve Huffman called the decision the right one for the platform and for the business.
