Amazon's cloud growth has accelerated alongside spending on SI infrastructure, and the market answered with a fall in the shares in after-hours trading.

Revenue at Amazon's cloud unit in the third quarter was $45.98 billion, 39% more than a year earlier and above the $45.29 billion consensus in a StreetAccount poll; according to CNBC, it is AWS's fastest growth since the fourth quarter of 2021. During the quarter AWS signed agreements with Meta and OpenAI and bought the data-analysis startup DuckLabs. According to Fortune and TechCrunch, Amazon expects about $220 billion of capital spending in 2026, mostly for AWS, and the company's shares fell more than 6% in after-hours trading. CEO Andy Jassy called what is happening a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and said AWS will become a $1 trillion business.
