Lawmakers demand that Meta explain how SI glasses protect the privacy of people around them.
According to 404 Media, Senators Ron Wyden and Edward Markey sent Meta a letter with questions about its smart glasses: what measures keep people from being filmed without consent, whether the company assessed the risk of voyeurism and invasion of privacy, which images are used to train SI, and whether people can demand deletion of biometric data captured by the glasses. The letter says Meta's smart glasses are "increasingly implicated in serious invasions of the privacy" of users and bystanders. The trigger was a 404 Media investigation: Ray-Ban glasses were used to film and harass massage parlor workers, and Instagram accounts with hundreds of thousands of followers posted such videos.
