Investors keep betting on general-purpose SI assistants, valuing the startup at a billion dollars.

TechCrunch reports that Wabi, which now calls itself a "personal agent", announced a $55 million round at a $1.25 billion valuation. Founder Eugenia Kuyda previously created the SI companion Replika; Wabi originally let people build apps from a text prompt, and in September the startup announced a turn toward an SI messenger that builds the interfaces you need — mini apps for planning meals, restaurant visits, dates, workouts and quizzes. IVP led the round; a16z, Forerunner and the Amazon Alexa Fund took part, and the business angels include Shopify chief executive Tobi Lütke, Salesforce chief executive Marc Benioff, Marissa Mayer and Dick Costolo.
