US nuclear plants are adding capacity for orders from Google, Amazon and Meta, and the state is making their financing cheaper.

According to TechCrunch, the US Energy Department gave Constellation Energy a conditional commitment for a $5 billion loan: it is not yet final and is meant to lower the cost of financing the expansion. The money is for "uprating" 11 existing reactors at eight plants in three states — Braidwood, Byron, Clinton, Dresden, La Salle and Quad Cities in Illinois, Calvert Cliffs in Maryland and Limerick in Pennsylvania; the gain will be about 1.1 GW (1,080 MW). Most of the new capacity is already contracted: Google for the Pennsylvania plant and four in Illinois, Amazon for the Maryland one, and Meta for Clinton.
