Ten Norwegian media outlets sue Meta over use of their content for SI

Prepared by Sintelligent with the help of SI. Published in SI: . Updated: .

Publishers are challenging in court the right of companies to use their journalism to train SI without a contract.

A coalition that includes NRK, Schibsted, Amedia, Polaris, Aller and the NTB news agency has gone to the Oslo District Court. The plaintiffs argue that Meta's new commercial terms would allow it to collect articles, photos and videos, including paywalled material, to develop SI products without permission or payment. Meta announced the changes on October 8; the launch was moved from October 30 to November 20 to explain to partners in more detail what is changing, and the company has not withdrawn the changes. The head of the Norwegian Media Businesses' Association said Meta uses media groups' investments in journalism for SI services that compete with them.
