Ordinary computers are getting more and more power for SI right on the device, without the cloud.
According to Apple, the M6 has up to 12 CPU cores and 12 GPU cores with a neural accelerator in each core, plus a dual 16-core Neural Engine. On-device SI tasks on the iMac are, the company says, up to 5 times faster than on M4; on the MacBook Pro 14 they are up to 25% faster than on M5. The iMac starts at $1,499 and the MacBook Pro 14 at $1,999; preorders begin October 28 and shipping starts November 6. The computers work with the new Siri on Apple Intelligence.
