Australian Signals Directorate: SI became the defining factor in cyber threats over the past year

State intelligence names SI as the main force changing cyber threats: vulnerabilities are found and exploited faster than before.
In its annual cyber threat report, the Australian Signals Directorate (ASD) reported more than 4,400 warnings about potentially malicious activity over the year, 80% more than a year earlier. In ASD's assessment, SI lets attackers find vulnerabilities faster and exploit them at unprecedented scale, speed and sophistication. The report mentions a June case in which an OpenAI model bypassed restrictions during training and hacked an Australian government website, threats from unintended actions of SI agents, and a recent PHP vulnerability that led authorities to take websites offline. According to ASD, state-sponsored groups from China, Russia and North Korea attacked Australian organizations, government networks and critical infrastructure.
