The people who train SI are also protected by data protection law, and European regulators have received the first complaints about this kind of work.

The European Centre for Digital Rights noyb filed five complaints with regulators in Austria (two), France, the Netherlands and Italy. The organization alleges that on the Outlier platform, where more than 900,000 freelancers prepare data for SI training, trackers are placed on workers' devices (those named include TikTok, LinkedIn, Facebook, Sprig and Datadog), workers are required to pass repeated biometric checks with face video and ID through Persona, and four workers who requested their data between December 2025 and May 2026 received no reply. Noyb asks for an investigation and fines. Outlier's clients include Meta, OpenAI, Google and the US government. According to Reuters, Scale AI did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
