A government in the EU is linking a multi-year staff reduction to future SI plans.
On October 26 the Dutch cabinet announced the elimination of about 25,000 positions in the central government by 2035 — roughly 16% of staff; the police and defense are excluded from the cuts. Under the plan, annual savings will be €900 million in 2027 and €3.5 billion from 2035. State Secretary Eric van der Burg described the goal as a "simpler, smarter and smaller" government. The cabinet will present targets and savings plans based on using SI to raise productivity in the first quarter of 2027.
