The cost of a task for a mid-tier model falls several-fold within a single generation, and computer use is part of its basic functions.
On October 26 OpenAI released GPT-6.1 Terra, a mid-tier model that replaces GPT-5.6 Terra and sits below Sol and Astra and above Luna in the lineup. According to OpenAI, Terra looks at the screen and acts in applications — it clicks, types and switches between programs: it enters invoice data into accounting systems, fills in forms, reads technical drawings and edits video. API pricing is $1 per million input tokens and $5 per million output tokens; according to The Decoder, GPT-5.6 Terra costs $2 and $12 and Claude Sonnet 5.5 costs $2 and $10. The model is available in ChatGPT (Plus, Pro, Enterprise, Edu), in Codex and through the API. According to Artificial Analysis, at maximum reasoning effort the model scores 6 points higher than GPT-5.6 Terra on its Intelligence Index, and a task costs $0.40 versus $1.40. In a test that involved watching an animated film shot by shot, according to OpenAI, the result is 15 percentage points higher than its predecessor's at roughly a third of the cost.
