Helsing unveils the Contra SI air defense system and two interceptors, AD-1 Inferno and AD-2 Ambush

Defense manufacturers are moving to autonomous tracking of many targets at once, leaving the decision to fire with the operator.

The German defense company Helsing presented, at an event in Germany, Contra, an air defense system based on SI that, according to the company, fuses sensor and weapon data into a single air picture and can detect and engage hundreds or thousands of drones and missiles at once; decisions on engagement and target priorities, it says, remain with operators through its Altra command software. Shown with the system were the interceptors AD-1 Inferno (jet-powered) and AD-2 Ambush (rocket-powered). Helsing cites intelligence estimates of rising output of Geran-4 and Geran-5 jet-powered drones (by its figures, up to 4,000 a month). The system and interceptors are in development; the company plans orders and deliveries no earlier than the second half of 2027.
