Newsrooms face a stream of emails from SI agents and must tell them apart from people.
Wired describes SI agents that email editors story pitches in the name of "journalists." Since September, Defector has been receiving daily pitches from self-identified SI agents; editor-in-chief Tom Ley gives the example of a message from an agent called "Jayden" about a record-keeping mishap at a third-tier British football club, and Offrange editor Jesse Hirsch says such messages come to him in a steady stream. The author, who exchanged emails with "Jayden," concluded there was no human behind it.
