The market for SI accelerator memory is no longer one maker's preserve, which widens the choice for chip designers.
According to Bernstein's estimate, Samsung's revenue from high-bandwidth memory (HBM) for July-September was $8.7 billion (up 33% quarter on quarter) versus $7.6 billion for SK hynix (up 11%). According to Counterpoint, in the second quarter of 2025 SK hynix had 64% of HBM revenue and Samsung 15%; a year later it was 50% and 33%. HBM is used in SI accelerators, including those developed by Nvidia.
