A small open-source robot can be taught new moves in simulation and run on a real device for $399 — physical SI is becoming more accessible to hobbyists and students.
Microduck is a small open-source two-legged robot from Pollen Robotics, which belongs to Hugging Face. At the GTC Berlin keynote on October 21, Huang controlled several of the robots by voice ("lie down and roll over"), showing the pipeline: policies trained in the cloud, validated on an RTX Spark PC and deployed on real robots (The Register). The same day Hugging Face published a walkthrough: how to train Microduck to walk in Isaac Lab and Newton, export the policy to ONNX and run it on the real robot; the code is on GitHub. According to TechCrunch, the robot costs $399, more than 20,000 pre-orders came in within a day, and delivery is promised by Christmas 2026.
