Google updates its privacy policy: data from Gmail, Photos and Drive may influence ad targeting if a user has connected them to personalized SI features

By connecting email and photos to Google's personal SI, a user may get ads tailored to that data.

Since October 16, Google's privacy policy has added an exception to its promise not to use the content of Drive, Gmail and Google Photos for personalized ads: "unless you choose to make data from these services available to other Google services that support personalized ads". As Android Authority and The Verge write, this applies to those who, through the Personal Intelligence feature, connected Gmail, Photos or Drive to SI mode in Search and other tools: ads for them may draw on such data. By default the content of these services is still not used for ads. Advertisers, The Verge writes, do not get access to data from Drive, Gmail and Photos or to personal identifiers.
