SemiAnalysis: DeepSeek could move mainly to Huawei Ascend accelerators by 2027–2028 and reduce its dependence on Nvidia

Analysts believe a leading Chinese lab is seriously moving to Huawei chips, but for the whole industry such a move remains hard.

3DNews, citing SemiAnalysis analysts, writes that within two years DeepSeek could eliminate its dependence on Nvidia by making Huawei accelerators its main ones. Among the grounds are the TileLang programming language adapted for Ascend and an estimate that the Huawei Ascend 950PR reaches about 99.7% of theoretically possible efficiency. DeepSeek, per these data, gives Huawei early access to its models, which ensures "zero-day" support for new versions, and the companies jointly develop the software ecosystem to narrow the gap with Nvidia. The source's caveat: it is hard to carry the success over to China's whole industry because of unusual server configurations and possible incompatibility with other hardware. This is an analysts' estimate, not a statement by the companies.
