Cambricon: third-quarter profit rose 148%, but revenue of 3.53 billion yuan came in well below the expected 6.26 billion because of shortages of memory and production capacity

Demand for Chinese SI chips is growing, but output is hitting limits in memory and manufacturing, and the company is not yet abandoning its annual plan.

The Chinese SI chip designer Cambricon reported third-quarter revenue of 3.53 billion yuan (about $529 million) and a 148% rise in net profit to 1.4 billion yuan; analysts expected revenue of 6.26 billion yuan. The Next Web explains the gap by a shortage of high-bandwidth memory and limited access to advanced manufacturing: the main memory suppliers — Samsung, SK Hynix and Micron — cannot sell it to Chinese buyers under US sanctions, and SMIC does not get the most advanced ASML equipment. The company kept its 2026 revenue target of at least 13.5 billion yuan, more than double last year's; inventories grew by about 3.4 billion yuan over the quarter.
