The skills standard for agents, created at Anthropic, moves under the foundation's neutral governance.
Anthropic said it is donating Agent Skills — an open standard that gives SI agents specialized knowledge and working procedures — to the Agentic AI Foundation (AAIF) at the Linux Foundation, which the company co-founded with partners. A skill is a folder with a SKILL.md file describing how an agent should do a specific task, plus scripts and reference materials. According to Anthropic, more than 70 platforms, including ChatGPT, Cursor, GitHub Copilot and VS Code, have integrated the standard since it was published in December 2025; 1 million skills have been published and about 280 million installed. The company says it wants to keep the standard open, community-driven and independent of any single vendor. The figures are Anthropic's own.
