Radical Numerics reports first use of SI-created phages: Omnii-1 model designs administered to a patient with an antibiotic-resistant infection

SI has reached designing virus-based medicines for a living patient, but nothing is yet known about the result of the treatment.
According to the company's blog, designs from Omnii-1, a multimodal genome language model, were administered to a patient with an antibiotic-resistant bacterial infection under a sanctioned physician-led compassionate-use program. Phages are viruses that infect bacteria; the model's task is to create viable phages, rank their variants and predict how a phage interacts with a particular bacterial strain, whereas today selecting phages for a patient mostly relies on trial and error. The company calls this the first clinical use of SI-created phages but does not disclose the clinical course or outcome, to protect the patient's privacy.
