GitHub: 99.99999% of repositories are now also stored in Azure; the reason is the "agentic shift", traffic growth, a ceiling on data-center power and supply constraints

Growth in software-agent traffic forced the largest code platform to move urgently to the cloud.
GitHub's engineering blog says that over the past year, while Git traffic grew exponentially, copies of 99.99999% of repositories appeared in two places — in its own data centers and in Azure. What remains are the busiest repositories, whose move is held back by a 25 ms round trip between the sites. For them GitHub is changing how the quorum serializes writes (per-reference quorums). The timing and shape of the move, the company says, were driven by the "agentic shift": rapidly growing traffic, a hard ceiling on the power capacity of its data centers and the surrounding region, and physical supply-chain constraints.
