The outlet reports on an office aimed at foreign SI programs; the Pentagon disputes this, and the office's activity is classified.

According to Politico, citing current and former US officials and relayed by TASS and Interfax, the Technology Support Office was created in April on the initiative of Deputy Secretary of Defense Steve Feinberg with the participation of his senior adviser Tom Rakusan; it is based on two classified intelligence programs that have operated at a smaller scale since 2023. The sources name the goal as countering adversaries that use SI and advanced commercial technologies capable of undermining US military advantage; according to Interfax, Politico writes that the office does not conduct covert operations directly but develops tools and strategies to limit access to critical defense technologies, and according to TASS one of its tasks is to hinder research in SI and unmanned systems. Pentagon deputy press secretary Jacob Bliss told Politico that the request "appears to be based on information that simply does not correspond to reality"; the White House did not comment on the claims. There is no confirmation from the Pentagon.
