CrowdStrike describes four previously unknown groups whose SI agents made decisions on their own in hacks, from medical institutions in Argentina to government sites

Autonomous SI agents are already carrying out real hacks, and the barrier to entry for attackers is falling.

According to a report by CrowdStrike's Counter Adversary Operations team, in May–August 2026 it recorded campaigns in which SI not only created tools but made decisions and executed commands itself; all four groups left their agent systems in open directories. A Spanish- and English-speaking operator breached at least 15 medical institutions in Argentina and stole credentials and medical records from at least one victim: a pairing of a Claude Code "Supervisor" agent and an "Executor" built on the open-source PentestGPT project. A Chinese-speaking attacker, according to 3DNews, hit two governments and companies in Brazil and the US, using Claude Code through a Chinese proxy service; an Indonesian campaign hit government domains and private companies and required manual bypassing of protections; a Russian-speaking group used a seven-stage workflow that gives agents "near-complete autonomy". CrowdStrike warns that basic offensive operations are becoming commoditized and that within a year low-skilled attackers could run campaigns previously available to organized groups and states.
