OpenAI and Founders Fund back Coherence Neuro, a startup developing a brain implant to detect and treat cancer

SI companies are investing more and more in brain-computer interfaces, seeing brain data as a new resource; curing cancer with an implant is a long way off.

According to Wired, OpenAI's venture arm and Peter Thiel's Founders Fund are taking part in a $45 million seed round for Coherence Neuro. The startup is developing a brain implant intended to detect and treat cancer. CEO Ben Woodington speaks of "growing synergy" between SI labs and brain-computer interface companies: brain data is valuable for training models, and SI is needed to read large volumes of neural signals. In January OpenAI had already invested in the brain-computer interface company Merge Labs.
