Spotify removed more than 50 million tracks it considers SI "slop" and spam from recommendations

Streaming services are separating music by human artists from the flow of automatic tracks, but there is still no common rule for SI music.

According to Spotify, over the past year more than 50 million songs identified as SI-generated "slop" or spam were removed from recommendations; the service also changed its recommendation system to rank music by human artists higher. Spotify introduced an "AI Persona" badge for artists with an SI identity that does not represent a real person and does not recommend their music; there is no mandatory label on all SI tracks. The company says listener complaints about such content have dropped noticeably. Other platforms go further: YouTube Music labels SI songs, Deezer lets users filter them out, and Bandcamp has banned SI music.
