Perplexity lets its Computer app run entirely on your own Mac with Qwen 3.6 or its own model

An SI agent can be kept on your own computer if you have enough memory, and personal data stays at home.
It requires an Apple Silicon computer with at least 36 GB of RAM. The whole program runs locally, including the orchestrator, and you can choose Qwen 3.6 or PPLX Pro, a version of Qwen 3.6 that Perplexity post-trained for Computer use cases. According to the company, data from Notes and Mail does not go to the cloud, and the user saves on credits. In early September Perplexity added Hybrid Compute, which splits tasks between cloud and local models.
