More than 1,000 mathematicians have joined an association whose members refuse to work with SI companies or use chatbots in their papers

The response to SI in mathematics is not uniform: some scientists put it to work, while a thousand others deliberately refuse it.
The Association of Human Mathematicians (AHM) emerged after controversial publications from SI companies, in particular the 722 papers OpenAI released all at once this month. Members make two core pledges (not to work for SI companies and not to use chatbots to write papers, lecture notes and books) and one optional one: to give up SI in research altogether. Terence Tao said last month that the way such results are "dumped" on the community may harm the field: although many results are formally verified, they are presented in a hard-to-follow and hasty way. According to member Sam Raskin of Yale, the pledges are "pretty mild," and motives vary, from environmental concerns to worries about jobs. OpenAI's position is given in the article only through its earlier statement that it would take the advisory group's advice on board.
